Solid wood flooring

Solid Wood Flooring

No.1 Best Solid Wood Flooring - Toscana Remodeling

Hardwood flooring is seen so often throughout so many modern homes that it basically sells itself. The inherent beauty and inviting warmth of hardwood floors are readily apparent, yet there is a depth and complexity to them that goes beyond mere visual appeal.

Consider the following benefits…

Solid wood flooring has a lengthy lifespan.

Durability and recovery are two notable advantages of hardwood. Wood flooring is expected to last about 20-30 years. It’s not strange for wood flooring to last well beyond a family’s stay in their home.

Perhaps the most prominent feature of solid hardwood is its ability to be sanded and refinished. Because each plank is made completely out of hardwood, professionals can essentially sand off the top layer in order to create a new one. Furthermore, the worn layer is removed in favor of a fresh layer.

The surface can undergo sanding and refinishing multiple times. It does cost money, though, they’re only necessary once every 5-10 years and are well worth the extended life of your hardwood flooring.

The main threats to hardwood are scratching and moisture. Thankfully, in today’s world, there are many reliable sealants that can help protect all kinds of flooring. You’ll want your solid wood flooring to be sealed. The sealant will last 2-3 years, guarding against wear and tear along the way and preventing moisture from seeping through to the core.

Various factors affect the lifetime of your wood floor. Pets can cause scratching, and humid environments can cause curling or cupping of planks. Just be careful of these things and your flooring should remain in great shape!

Remember:

-Do NOT steam clean

-Clean up spills right away

-Seal your floor

-Use the proper feature on your vacuum when cleaning the surface

There are so many great wood flooring types to choose from

No.1 Best Solid Wood Flooring - Toscana Remodeling Numerous varieties of wooden flooring are accessible. There’s maple, oak, ash, bamboo, cherry, walnut… the list goes on. The appearance for your flooring varies based on your selection, but it’s hard to go wrong with any choice.

Cherry and walnut rank among the priciest varieties of wood. Each offers a modern, soothing look. Cherry has a slight burgundy hue to it (hence its name), while walnut looks quite neutral.

Bamboo flooring stands out as one of the most resilient choices among wooden flooring options. There’s a reason it’s used as a building and fencing material, as well as for agricultural purposes. Bamboo is very durable and completely eco-friendly. For this reason, more and more homes are choosing it for their flooring.

One solid hardwood flooring type will always have its differences from the others, but they all share the outstanding characteristics of durability and beauty. You and your guests will be entranced by your elegant flooring.

Other flooring options don’t offer the same versatility as hardwood. Natural stone may match or exceed hardwood’s versatility, but tile, laminate, vinyl plank and carpet fall well short.

Let your home value increase

Hardwood is one of the few types of flooring that will increase your home’s resale value. Hand-scraped hardwood is as popular ever. Just as buyers love granite countertops, they love solid wood flooring.

However, it doesn’t make sense for a homeowner to install hardwood flooring just because he/she is putting a house on the market. The cost of purchase and installation will outweigh the added value. That being said, purchasing and installing wood flooring for long-term benefit will improve your home now and will add value to it whenever you do decide to sell it.

Will hardwood flooring add $10,000 in value? Not exactly, but it will definitely help. Obviously, the better the floor’s condition and the fewer number of times it’s been sanded/refinished, the more it will add to the estimated value.

When the time comes, you will be saving a future buyer from having to spend money on new flooring. You’ll also be saving the buyer the time and research that would be used in order to find the right flooring. These factors tend to play into a buyer’s final decision.

What makes solid wood flooring superior to other types of flooring materials?

Solid hardwood and engineered hardwood are often used interchangeably. While both are “hardwood”, they’re not the same thing.

Engineered hardwood is a layered floor. It consists of a polyurethane layer, a veneer and a plywood layer. The veneer is made of true hardwood, whether it be oak, maple, hickory, etc.

An engineered plank is not 100% hardwood. Because of this, it’s limited with regards to sanding and refinishing. Often, the hardwood layer is so thin that it can be sanded and refinished only once or twice.

The appearance of engineered hardwood closely resembles real hardwood, yet the stacked planks have a shorter lifespan.

Laminate and vinyl plank flooring are considerably cheaper than hardwood, but they suffer in appearance and don’t last as long. There’s no real hardwood in laminate or vinyl plank.

As for the non-wood flooring option, or the ones that don’t imitate wood, tile and stone flooring have their specialties just like hardwood does. Tile is very difficult to damage, as it can withstand heavy impacts and high volumes of moisture. Tile is functional, but it is not considered as cozy as solid wood flooring.

Stone looks good anywhere, really. Many homeowners insist stone flooring, like marble, travertine, and granite, is the most attractive type of flooring. While that might be true, it costs more than hardwood. Blemishes on stone are also more apparent than blemished on wood.
